Weekend challenge update
TL;DR
I was using buggy just-released Beta packages. I did not complete it this weekend. But it will be released next weekend.
After seeing all the new stuff that was announced at Laracon US 2 weeks ago, I got a little too excited. I wanted to play with the new toys: Livewire 3, Volt and Folio. And I was curious how I could use them with an AI app.
So I decided to give myself a little project: A chatbot for chatting with the Laracon videos.
Alas, as with most things Beta, the bugs got in the way and a couple of them are blockers. I still intend to finish it, but it will require a downgrade to stable versions of the software, which I will do next weekend.
Meanwhile, I did learn a lot, submitted one bug report, and came away with a great sense of where things are heading in the Laravel ecosystem. Here’s what I think of Livewire 3, Volt and Folio:
I love that Livewire 3 is now built on AlpineJS. Frontend and backend feels even more seamlessly integrated.
Folio lets you build things FAST, making it ideal for prototyping and launching new ideas quickly. There are some limitations, like not being able to name routes, but they’ll be solves pretty quickly, I’m sure.
With Volt, you have a Livewire component and its view all in one file. It’s great for simple components, but personally, I prefer the separation. I got a bit overwhelmed as the component started to grow bigger.
Laravel continues to blow my mind with its innovation.
And as for the project, look out for it going live next week!
